A scams unit set up in Dudley to protect vulnerable residents from being conned out of cash has helped nearly 400 people, new figures have revealed.
This weekend I got a long overdue new laptop and the difference in account set up was stark. I opened eBay on the new device, logged in and placed an order and it was business as usual. But when I logged in Google just about ever device I have started pinging with account alert warnings on computers and pop ups (and email alerts) on Android, warning me that a new device had logged into my account.

TV and radio presenter Helen Skelton has revealed that she was scammed out of her savings after falling victim to fraudsters over the phone.

In May this year, Tonight reporter Helen Skelton received an email. It appeared to be from TV Licensing, and said that it was her ‘last day to remain licensed’ but that her direct debit had bounced. It instructed her to pay an overdue balance of £11.95. Little did Helen know: when she clicked to pay that small fee, it would actually begin a chain of events which would allow criminals to steal an astonishing £70,000 from her bank account.

The Financial Conduct Authority has published warnings about two unauthorised car insurance firms targeting the public via social media. Fast Camel Car Insurance is reportedly operating on Facebook, while @carinsurance.lltd is targeting customers on Instagram.
